Equipped and Encouraged

May 6th, 2011

Walking into my first UPN Gathering a few years ago, I was intimidated and anxious. There I was, this young, inexperienced leader, surrounded by what I consider the “Generals of the Faith.” I mean, there were people there that had been pastors and church leaders for longer than I’ve been alive. To make matters worse, my wife and I were asked to stand before them with our team to lead worship. It was both an amazing and terrifying honor!

My anxiety quickly turned to admiration as I watched these amazing men and women of God serve and love one another. Young and old, from all over the world, we were united in those moments as one community–many different parts, but one body. That is what I love about UPN. It doesn’t matter how many books you’ve written, how big your church is, or how many services you have. There are no egos or hidden agendas. Everyone is welcomed, loved, and appreciated for the investment they are making in the Kingdom. It is an absolute honor to serve such wonderful Kingdom leaders and be a part of such a caring community.

Each May, our UPN Gathering is a highlight of my year. It is a chance for me to learn from veterans in ministry and connect with those who are still learning, like I am. As a young leader, the connections and friendships that I have made at UPN have been invaluable to me and our ministry. I always leave feeling equipped, encouraged, and energized to get back on the battlefield.  I encourage you to make plans to join us for this year’s time together. It is an investment you will not regret and a time you will never forget.

More Than a Conference

May 4th, 2011

Every once and a while there comes along a gathering that is special. One that redefines the experience and exceeds the expectations of what a conference can be. This is what United Pastors Network gathering is for us. A  few hundred pastors and leaders, (some quietly changing their community and others boldly shaking the world) coming together for a few days to build friendships and share resources. This gathering is the highlight of our year and continues to shape our vision and mission trajectory since the first UPN gathering many years ago.

I can think of at least three reasons why UPN is more than just a conference. First, it’s a global family of church leaders who will welcome and partner with you in the Gospel. I have laughed, cried and even vacationed with pastors who have become close friends through UPN. Secondly, it’s a philosophy. We are better together than we are alone. Setting aside logos and egos, we are one body by the cross, not mere affinity but true community.  Lastly, it’s about generosity. Through candid discussion, idea exchange and practical insight you will walk away with real resources for personal and ministry growth.

After serving as lead pastor for five years, we felt God calling us into a new adventure of church planting. UPN was instrumental in helping us step out into this new calling. Now as a first year church planter it is truly an honor to be around such an amazing group of high caliber leaders. My life has been greatly impacted by the humility and servant leaders who host this gathering every year.  If you have never come to a UPN gathering prayerfully consider joining us in May. You will be so glad you did. Hope to see you there!
